Air conditioning cost depends on the size and type of system, how many rooms you want to cool and the installation work involved. We recommend a survey for an accurate quote.

A single room unit costs less than a multi-room system.
The unit needs to suit the room and its heat load.
Pipe runs, wiring and positioning of units affect the work.
Different makes offer different efficiency and controls.
Wall, floor, ceiling and ducted units differ in cost and in the work involved.
The biggest single factor is how many rooms you want to cover. A single unit serving one room involves one indoor unit, one outdoor unit and one pipe run. A multi-room system adds indoor units and longer pipework, so the work and the equipment grow with each room.
Ducted or cassette systems for larger spaces involve concealed ductwork or ceiling work, which adds to the job but gives a very discreet result. Our guide to choosing air conditioning explains the options.
Where the units go makes a difference. A short, direct pipe run from indoor to outdoor unit is quicker to install than one that crosses several rooms or has to be hidden in a wall. Electrical supply, drainage for condensation and access for the outdoor unit all affect the work.
Installation must be carried out by people qualified to handle refrigerants, and ours is F-Gas compliant. That is part of what a proper quote covers.
Efficient modern units can be economical to run, particularly in heating mode. Costs depend on use, insulation and the electricity tariff.
Sensible temperature settings, timers and regular filter cleaning all help keep running costs down. A unit that is correctly sized runs more efficiently than one that is too large and keeps switching on and off.
We assess the space, recommend the right system and give you a written quote. A survey lets us check where the units can go, how the pipework will run and what the room needs, which avoids surprises later.
When comparing quotes, check that each covers the same units, pipework, electrical work, commissioning and aftercare. A lower headline figure may leave something out.
A unit that is too small struggles on hot days, and one that is too large cycles on and off, wastes energy and feels less comfortable. Sizing depends on the room, how much sun it gets, the glazing, the equipment in it and how many people use it.
Efficiency ratings help you compare units, but the quality of the installation matters just as much. A well-installed, correctly sized unit will usually cost less to run than a more powerful one in the wrong place.
Domestic installations are usually a handful of units serving bedrooms, living rooms or an extension. Commercial premises, such as offices, shops and salons, often need larger or ducted systems and may need work planned around opening hours.
Either way, the principle is the same: the right system, correctly installed, is better value than a cheaper one that does not suit the space. We will explain the options and what each involves before you decide.
Air conditioning is cheaper to run and lasts longer when it is looked after. Clean the filters regularly, keep the airflow around both units clear and have the system serviced periodically so that refrigerant levels, drainage and electrical connections are checked.
Small habits help too. Close windows when the unit is running, use timers rather than leaving it on all day and avoid setting the temperature far lower than you need. These make a noticeable difference to comfort and to running costs.

Modern units are efficient. Costs depend on use, insulation and tariff.
Generally yes, as it involves more units and pipework, but it can suit several rooms.
Filters should be cleaned regularly and a periodic service keeps the system efficient.
